The Islamic holy month of Ramadan began on Saturday, June 28 and it the
festival of Eid, marking the end of Ramadan, will begin on Monday, July
28. Officially called Eid al-Fitr (which translates to "The
Feast of Fast Breaking"), the exact dates of Eid may vary as the Islamic
calendar is a lunar one. According to the BBC, the history of Eid
al-Fitr dates back to 624 CE when Prophet Muhammad celebrated the defeat of the Meccans in the Battle of Jang-e-Badar.
